In 2025, the Vereniging Circulair Friesland will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, which is a great time to look back and also look forward. This year companies will be opening their doors to share their circular innovations. You can take a look behind the scenes to experience sustainable initiatives and projects. In addition, circular expeditions can be booked on request in 2025 and there are many other activities.
MADE CIRCULAIR IN FRYSLÂN
To show what we’re working on together the association will label the successes. Literally. They do this with the 'Made (circular) in Fryslân' label, which was specially developed for the jubilee year. This allows everyone to see how proud we are of all the wonderful circular projects being created here. And, more importantly, to inspire others with this. We label our innovations and best practices and we show the world how the circular economy works in practice. With the ambition to become the most circular region in Europe, Friesland is showing the world that a sustainable future is possible. When a community comes together and commits to change, a clean, green and healthy future is within reach. That’s why we’re happy to make an effort today to create an even more beautiful world for tomorrow.
This grand plan started in 2015. Seven companies joined forces and, together with the Province of Friesland and the municipality of Leeuwarden, carried out an analysis of the raw material flows. This provided insight into the amount of raw materials transported over long distances. This is unnecessary and inefficient, and fortunately (largely) solved with a local approach. An important condition is that we tackle this across borders. From builders to farmers and from banks to companies, we can only achieve this ambition together and if everyone contributes.
JUBILEE YEAR 2025
Fortunately, many Frisians are convinced that the circular economy is important for broad prosperity: it will keep the province healthy and happy in the future. What also helps enormously is that the circular economy is not imposed from above. The movement and the ambition started from the bottom up. These are the companies that took the initiative, joined forces and founded the Vereniging Circulair Friesland (VCF). There are now around 170 members: companies, governments and educational institutions that work together to promote a circular economy and a sustainable future.
We like to think big in Friesland. ‘Think big, act small’ f its us perfectly. The possibilities are endless, as are the dreams and ambitions. And with small, determined steps, we’ll move towards our goal together: we want to be the most circular region in Europe.
